It wasn’t too long to go until the Australian festival was to be held, but DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA have announced that the festival for the year has been cancelled.

They linked to the news post confirming the news through social media. Without mentioning anything about coronavirus or even mentioning health risks and concerns, the organisers confirmed that due to the cancellation of headline act My Chemical Romance, they would not be able to continue with the festival.

They shared My Chemical Romance’s official statement, confirming they were cancelling their upcoming Australia and New Zealand appearances due to health concerns, following it with the fact that “this announcement has come barely 8 days prior to Download Australia“. They explained that since it was such a last-minute decision, they “very reluctantly made the decision to cancel Download Australia 2020“. Later in the post, they confirmed they’re in talks with My Chemical Romance and Deftones – who were also scheduled to play Download Festival Australia – to host headline shows with both bands later this year.
