Having spent the last 12 months shaping the live music scene in London, GoToBeat well and truly have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to new music. So we’re handing the reigns over to them for their final top artists of 2019… and artists you most certainly need to be checking out in 2020.
FROM: LONDON | FOR FANS OF: BON IVER
The band formed gradually after an actor, a producer, a tennis coach and an art history student saw each other perform at a handful of shows in London, and were inspired enough to make a record together.
Montrell’s first EP is the result of Jonny’s lofi demos rearranged by the band, and recorded in a studio beneath the cobbles of Chagford Street in London. Chorused and distorted guitars blend with smooth, reverby vocals and brutally honest lyrics.
They played for Gotobeat at The Victoria Dalston. Beautiful night of beautiful music. You’ll them again live for Gotobeat soon.
FROM: LONDON | FOR FANS OF: RADIOHEAD
Described as ‘Intersecting jazz influences with minimal electronica and clever wordplay’, and ‘A genre mix of unobtrusive pop, electro and various harmonic foreign genre elements’, Kyoti bring true quality to music. You can see them live for Gotobeat again next year, with some very interesting new projects.
WE ARE PARKAS
FROM: BRISTOL | FOR FANS OF: THE STROKES
We Are Parkas are the grit, guts, and passion that is missing from modern-day indie music. Matt Banks (vocals), Owen Stephens (guitar), George Hopkins (bass) and Joe Strauss (drums) have been writing and gigging constantly since 2015, perfecting their arena-sized sound and firmly establishing themselves as the South West’s most exciting prospect in indie rock.
They take inspiration from the greats. Namely the Arctic Monkeys, The Jam, The Strokes, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and others of a similar vein. With towering riffs, soaring melodies, and palpable charisma their live show is a refreshing injection of pure solid energy. It must be seen to be believed.
