Australia has become the stomping ground for some of the most unrecognised talent in the world, and much like what else we do on a global scale we’ve narrowed it down to the very best for your listening pleasure. After having put metalcore giants, NORTHLANE on the cover this month it only seemed right to bring you a guide to THE artists you need to know from down under. Check out part I now!

WINDWAKER

FROM: MELBOURNE | FOR FANS OF: BEARTOOTH

If any band can be seen to be defining the next generation of Australian metalcore, then it’s Melbourne’s Windwaker. With vocalist, Will King having been described as one of the best front men of the last decade, there truly isn’t a live show that goes off just as hard as a Windwaker one. Having recently toured their homeland with the likes of Beartooth, aswell as a string of festival performances, Windwaker have been in pursuit of delivering their melodic vocals, big stadium choruses, and crushing riffs to the masses, and we think it’s about time that they took their metalcore massive attack to international waters.

bad//dreems

FROM: ADELAIDE | FOR FANS OF: THE STONE ROSES

There’s something that already sounds nostalgic from the Adelaide outfit. Having recently hit our shores here in the UK with fellow Australian outfit The Chats if one band has used their self proclaimed ‘pub rock’ to steal the show each night it’s been these guys. Twinges of 90s Brit rock with a new wave punk rhythm, Bad Dreems are a must for all radio rock fans out there.

RUBY FIELDS

FROM: CRONULLA | FOR FANS OF: DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, SILVERSUN PICK UPS

Every once in a while an artist will come along to produce the most honest, and real soundtrack to a generation, and that’s Ruby Fields. Confronting anxiety, the confusions of modern dating and adult life with a cinematic sound, if one artist will help you navigate the forever changing journey that is life, and it’s highs and lows then it’s her.

PRESS CLUB

FROM: MELBOURNE | FOR FANS OF: JOYCE MANOR

Ever listened to a record so much that you don’t mind that it’s the only record Spotify downloaded when stranded in the middle of nowhere? Well that’s Press Club’s debut album, Late Teens. Indie anthems blend with punk to create a record suited for every possible moment, not to mention the BIGGEST choruses around.

CLOWNS

FROM: MELBOURNE | FOR FANS OF: FUCKED UP

A continent renowned for partying, these punks have been bringing the good times on an international level. Solidifying their name in the global punk scene, Clowns talent for thrashy, licks ridden belters are far from comic, but a testimony to the years of DIY graft that have been poured in by the good time guys and gals.

JUST ABOUT DONE

FROM: MELBOURNE | FOR FANS OF: NECK DEEP

Just as we thought that Trophy Eyes were taking the crown for best pop punk band in Australia, Just About Done have been quick to take the crown. If you’re looking for anthems to with the same pulls on the heart strings as The Wonder Years and sunny sing alongs then look no further.

THE BRAVE

FROM: BRISBANE | FOR FANS OF: HOLDING ABSENCE

Colourful and emotionally charged post-hardcore, The Brave are quickly becoming one of the most enigmatic and diverse and sonically vibrant artists to be coming out of Australia right now.

THE VANNS

FROM: WOLLOGONG | FOR FANS OF: FOALS

We often associate Australia with a heavier music scene, but the land of sunshine, surfing, and late summer nights with friends needs a soundtrack, and that’s exactly what The Vanns deliver in the form of empowering indie rock anthems.

blklst

FROM: MELBOURNE | FOR FANS OF: CANE HILL

Determined to redefine what it is to be a Nu-Metal band in 2019, the Melbourne outfit are almost intimidating in their ability to produce haunting, and atmospheric metallic anthems that wouldn’t fall short on main stages.

INFINITE ILLUSION

FROM: SYDNEY | FOR FANS OF: ARCHITECTS

After having received praise by the likes of Thy Art Is Murder and other heavyweights within the Australian metal scene, Infinite Illusion have become infamous in their consistent ability to deliver scorching live shows that can be comparable to even the likes of Architects in their ability to turn even the most solid of rooms into a chaotic sweat pit on a stadium sized level. If you’re looking for a real band, then look no further.

ELISION

FROM: SYDNE | FOR FANS OF: NORTHLANE

Having premiered their latest track Human Vessel exclusively with us earlier this year Elision have become more than just one of our own personal bands to watch. Haunting melodies laced with beautiful technicalities, Elision are a band that steadily walk the line between tech metal and ear pleasing metalcore.

THE CHATS

FROM: QUEENSLAND | FOR FANS OF: DUNE RATS

Yep. We thought it was a meme at first as well, but after obliterating the UK with consistent sold out shows and parties, it seems that their serious musicianship has been redeemed. Lathered with Australian slang, if you’re truly looking for an exploration into the true outback of the land down under one tongue in cheek anthem at a time then look no further… and look through a serious pair of speedys.
