Ahead of their set at this weekend’s UPSURGE FESTIVAL, UK heavy underdogs GOD COMPLEX decided to take the reigns and introduce us to their top new bands in the UK right now. From melodic hardcore to the heaviest chugs, this is God Complex’s guide to new music.
We’ve known the members of Loathe for some time and it’s been great to see them grow and progress the way they have. They’re making music unlike anyone else at the moment and they deserve everyone’s attention.
Lotus Eater are one of the heaviest bands in the UK at the moment. They’ve just been recently signed to Hopeless Records which they are more than deserving of, the groove they have is undeniable.
God Complex got our first break supporting this band at the end of the last year. It was a pleasure to watch one of the best live acts night after night, the energy and ferocity they bring to the stage is unparalleled. They care about current issues as well and have a strong voice when it comes to the subject matter of their songs.
This band are incredible, especially considering they do absolutely everything themselves. They record their own music, make their own music videos, and have a very strong visual aesthetic that pairs with the music perfectly.
We’ve become good friends with Parting Gift within the last year. The combination of eerie leads over the layered soundscapes and introspective lyrics definitely stands out in today’s music. Its not often you hear a band sound as good live as they do on record nowadays.
Conjurer have this awesome blend of sludge and metal that really captures a crowds attention. We toured with them in May earlier this year, each night the kids who turned out to the shows didn’t know whether to hit the pit or just stare in amazement. Their willingness and ability to go from fast blast beats to slow caveman riffs keeps you captivated by their performance from start to finish.
Leeched are one of the heaviest bands on the scene at the minute. They have this horrid grindcore style, somewhere between Nails and Harms Way. They carry themselves with this gruesome, industrial aesthetic, with dark, derelict imagery and photography accompanying all their releases.
Galleries vocalist Oli (Appleyard) has been a good friend of ours since the bands early days through his work as a photographer. Through him we came to know of his band Galleries. This band has some of the catchiest lead guitar sections and most heartfelt choruses out of any melodic band in the UK at the moment. They also sound bizarrely heavy for a band of their style when they play live, but in such a good way.
