Having just released our 50th issue with modern day hardcore heroes, TURNSTILE, ANGEL DU$T and TRAPPED UNDER ICE, as well as newcomers ODD MAN OUT on the cover, what better way to kick off it’s first week in distribution then to introduce you to both the band’s in this month’s Undiscovered section, but also the bands redefining current hardcore.
FROM: CALIFORNIA | FOR FANS OF: ROTTING OUT, COLD WORLD
Straight edge hardcore, California’s DARE take the Vinnie Stigma approach of, ‘if you can play fast, we can play faster’. A less than twenty minute slap of both wisdom and positivity, Dare embody a PMA that even Bad Brains would be proud of.
FROM: OXFORD | FOR FANS OF: GALLOWS
For a long period time, and since the disbandment of the original Gallows, it seems that the UK punk scene has really needed a new revival. But that’ where MSRY comes in, who’s anthemic noise is kicking and screaming like no one else. Having recently stormed across the UK, and with new EP, Safety First having just dropped, it seems that these young men may not be miserable, but they sure as hell are pissed off.
FROM: QUEBEC, CANADA | FOR FANS OF: COMEBACK KID, STICK TO YOUR GUNS
The land of Canada has always been ripe in it’s delivery of hardcore and punk, and these Quebec lads have been setting a new boundary for both the national and international scene. Huge choruses, bigger hooks, and a whole lot of attitude.
FROM: MERCED, CALIFORNIA | FOR FANS OF: STRAY FROM THE PATH, BEARTOOTH
At a time where it seems like Beartooth have dropped off the map, melodic hardcore is still firmly being carried forward, but this time round by California’s Whitewolf, who are coming at you with more angst and attitude than anyone else in the game.
FROM: MERSEYSIDE, UK | FOR FANS OF: CODE ORANGE , JESUS PIECE
There’s heavy, and then there is H E A V Y. God Complex might still be fairly underground, but it won’t be long before their cathartic heritage anthems come smashing through, leaving a trail of destruction wherever they go.
FROM: DENTON, TEXAS | FOR FANS OF: ANGEL DU$T, BIKINI KILL
The riot girl movement is having a revival, and this time round it’s catchier, sassier, and just as loud as ever before. Put on your best boots and go have a big ol’ kick around to these blood pumping punk anthems.
FROM: BERKSHIRE, UK | FOR FANS OF: YEAR OF THE KNIFE, JESUS PIECE
Every once in a while as a new genre is revived and a scene is rebuilt, a band will come through that will set the boundaries so high, that for a while they’ll define the sound of that generation. This is what Renounced sound like. The Berkshire based hardcore outfit have been drawing attention across the board with their heavy hitting barrage of pit starters, and it won’t be long until the entire UK is caught up in it.
