There’s nothing we like more at Fireball UK than a huge party, it’s kind of our thing. That’s why every year we pick out a handful of our favourite bands and head out on the road in a debauched blaze of fiery glory. Over the last couple of years we’ve partied with the likes of Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Anti-Flag and The Skints to name a few, and this year is even bigger than ever! We’ve got Flogging Molly, Face to Face, The Bronx and Fireball’s Hottest Band for 2018 Lost in Stereo along for the ride in our strongest line-up yet.
My favourite thing about the whole tour is that it’s not just about the big known bands on the bill; it also gives us the chance to engage with the UK’s underground scene. Fuelling The Fire has given us the ultimate platform to champion emerging grassroots talent nationwide. We give a different local band the opportunity to play a huge stage to thousands of new ears every night, not to mention a showcase to some of the key players in the music industry. For each show we hand-pick our favourite emerging act from the local area who then gets to open proceedings in their city. In turn, at the end of the tour, we then get to pick the band that impresses us the most to return next year for the whole thing. That’s exactly how we found the incredible Lost in Stereo who will be joining Fuelling the Fire in 2018, and Sweet Little Machine the year before that.
“in an industry that from the outside can appear cold and impenetrable, so many hardworking artists never get the break that they deserve….”
The UK’s music scene is better than ever. But, in an industry that from the outside can appear cold and impenetrable, so many hardworking artists never get the break that they deserve. If we can use our position in the scene to offer even just a small leg up, then it’s our commitment to do just that! The standard of local bands on the Fuelling the Fire Tour is always so high that I leave at the end of the two weeks with a tonne of new music that definitely wouldn’t have been on my radar otherwise, and hopefully so does everyone else that comes along.
The tour is so much more than just a bunch of live shows to us. It’s like a massive house party that escalated too far – our own travelling circus. I’m especially looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces that have joined us over the last couple of years, as well as meeting new ones. There really is a sense of family within these tours that just seems to grow and grow, and we heartily encourage everyone to get in on our shenanigans. There’s even talk of a Fireball-fuelled party boat this year…
Fuelling the Fire has always been intended to make an event of this size accessible for absolutely everyone to enjoy. No ridiculously high ticket prices, no pretentious gimmickry and most of all, anything goes; just have fun! Pogo to your heart’s content, throw down, dance off – you just do you.
I’ll see you at the front!
